Sorma Ibérica Introduces COOL HOLDERS: High-Pressure Coolant Toolholders for Enhanced Machining Performance
Sorma Ibérica has expanded its machining solutions portfolio with the introduction of COOL HOLDERS, a new range of turning and threading toolholders from Sorma IT – Nikko Tools. Engineered to improve machining efficiency, extend insert tool life and enhance chip control, the new range incorporates high-pressure coolant technology for demanding metalcutting applications.
The COOL HOLDERS range features an integrated high-pressure coolant delivery system designed to direct cutting fluid precisely to the cutting zone. By targeting the cutting edge, the system promotes more effective heat dissipation and improved chip breaking, helping to maintain stable cutting conditions and reduce machining interruptions.
Operating at recommended coolant pressures of 70 to 120 bar, the technology can extend insert tool life by at least 50% under the operating conditions specified by the manufacturer. These improvements contribute to greater process reliability, reduced tooling costs and increased overall machining productivity.
The benefits are particularly significant when machining difficult-to-cut materials, especially those classified within ISO material group S, including heat-resistant superalloys and titanium alloys. In these applications, high-pressure coolant delivery can enable cutting speeds to more than double under suitable machining conditions, substantially reducing cycle times while maintaining process stability.
The COOL HOLDERS portfolio includes toolholders for both external and internal turning, as well as external threading applications. Available in a variety of geometries and configurations, the range is designed for integration into conventional lathes, CNC turning centres and Swiss-type automatic lathes, providing flexibility across different machining environments.
With the introduction of COOL HOLDERS, Sorma Ibérica continues to strengthen its offering of advanced metalcutting solutions, addressing the industry’s growing demand for higher productivity, improved process reliability and more efficient tooling performance. The new range provides manufacturers with an effective solution for optimizing cutting conditions, extending tool life and reducing machining costs, particularly in applications involving challenging materials.
